Wastewater Grinders – The first line of defence for Wastewater systems

Wastewater grinders are a critical component in modern sewage and process pumping systems, designed to reduce solids before they reach pumps and downstream treatment equipment. By shredding challenging materials such as wipes, rags, plastics and fibrous debris, grinders protect infrastructure, minimise blockages and improve overall system reliability.

Utilising proven dual-shaft, slow-speed, high-torque cutting technology similar to leading solutions from JWC Environmental and Sulzer, wastewater grinders provide effective solids reduction while maintaining dependable performance in demanding wastewater environments.

PolyPump supply a range of wastewater grinders from leading manufacturers, all engineered for municipal, industrial and commercial applications, supporting both new installations and retrofit upgrades across existing assets.

What is a Wastewater Grinder?

A wastewater grinder is a mechanical solids-reduction device installed within sewage and process wastewater systems to protect pumps and downstream infrastructure from blockages and damage. Using slow-speed, high-torque dual-shaft cutters, grinders shred challenging materials such as wipes, rags, plastics and fibrous debris into smaller particles that can be safely transported through pipework and treatment processes. Wastewater grinders are available in several design configurations to suit installation requirements, including:

  • Inline wastewater grinders – installed directly within pressurised pipework to protect dry-installed pumps and downstream equipment while maintaining system flow.
  • Open channel wastewater grinders – positioned within channels or upstream of wet wells and pumping stations to intercept and reduce solids before pump intake.
  • High-flow channel grinders – designed for large municipal pump stations and treatment works, combining screening and grinding capabilities to manage high volumes and heavy solids loading.

Every wastewater grinder solution PolyPump supply is carefully selected to match your site’s hydraulic conditions, solids loading and operational requirements.
